Velez Malaga, Torre del Mar and all the white villages north, nothing happens at christmas and new year. Better staying away and going west of Malaga.

I am just attempting to ascertain the correct pronounciation of BENALMADENA.
Is is 'Ben al MAD ena' or 'Ben Al Mad ENA' ?

I ask this in the context of certain other holiday destinations being pronounced incorrectly. For instance, IBIZA is not "I bee ther" but "E bee ther'. Furthermore TENERIFE is " Ten er REEF ER" and not "Ten er reef".

I am 'Au Fait' with this ditty ! God Bless you kind Sir !!

Your assertion actually is a reminder that MAJORCA is also pronounced incorrectly. I believe it is "My Orr Car" and not "Mar JOR ker"

Do the Spanish get in a hissy fit regarding the mis-pronounciation of some of their treasured holiday destinations ?

Thank You for the information.
I happen to believe that in the interests of accuracy it is important that the correct pronounciation is used.

Pwerto BanOOs

BenalmAdena

When you see a little accent ´on a vowel eg Málaga, Puerto Banús, Benalmádena, Cádiz, (Jesús Gámez ), it means the stress should be on that vowel. Otherwise the stress is on the second last vowel in the word.

Spanish is delightfully regular isn't it. I remember my old Spanish teacher would refuse to help us with spelling Spanish words. His argument was, once you understand the basic rules, you should be able to spell any word just from hearing the way it's pronounced.

Kevbo, sounds like the type of guy who says, "when you can understand one woman, you can understand them all" Me, I have never understood any of them - women that is!!

In what parallel world can a woman want to go a soulless Arnale when she could be watching Gillingham Reserves play Northampton Town Reserves? They give you the "When you have seen one game, you have seen them all" xxxx. You reply with the "When you have seen one shoeshop you have seen them all" truth. At that point she throws a stiletto at you which ensures she doesn't go shopping and you don't get to The Theatre of Farce because the heel slashes your cheek and you end up in the A&E.

Actually, Spanish is phonetic so your teacher is pretty spot-on. That said so is Finnish and I have never got my head round a language that seems to have 5 letters and 50% of words are spelt with 6x"K"s, 3 "N"s and a couple of "I"s

KKKUKKIKN KIKNIKMNI IKXKNIINK XKVIKN KEVBON "HOOT THE MALAGA" SAYS KEVBO.  Don't quote me,  might have left a "K" out.
